President of the Brazilian Football Confederation is removed after harassment report

SÃO PAULO – On Sunday, the 6th, the Football Ethics Commission determined the removal of Rogério Caboclo, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation. The change in the presidency of the CBF takes place on the eve of the start of the Copa América, brought to Brazil after the endorsement given by Caboclo to Conmebol. The ousted president teamed up with the president of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, to organize the tournament in the country. But the manner of this confirmation and the way in which the dialogue was carried out with the cast of the Brazilian team brought a problem within the selection itself. Rogério Caboclo was already involved in controversies. A few months ago, as reported by the Dire agency, Caboclo was the target of yet another controversy, when in a meeting with club directors, he made strong pressure and financially threatened those directors who opposed the return of the championships that were suspended thanks to the COVID pandemic. 19.

The newspaper O Globo also reported that Caboclo had promised the federal government that he would change the coach of the Brazilian team on Tuesday. Fifa’s statute, in articles 14 and 19, provides for the independence and autonomy of national federations to act and take decisions without any type of external interference, including the federal government and the president of the republic. Failure to comply with the statute, if proven, can lead to the suspension and even expulsion of federations, other teams have already been punished by FIFA for this type of intervention.

CALCIO. BRASILE, PRESIDENTE FEDERALE SOSPESO: ACCUSE DI MOLESTIE

SAN PAOLO – Disposta in Brasile la sospensione dall’incarico di Rogerio Caboclo, il presidente della federazione calcistica nazionale, la Cbf. La decisione è stata assunta dai membri della Commissione etica dell’organismo: lo stop durerà 30 giorni, con la possibilità di una proroga, per consentire al dirigente di difendersi dalle accuse di molestie sessuali mosse da una dipendente della federazione.

In una nota, la Cbf ha riferito che l’incarico è assunto ad interim dal vicepresidente Antonio Carlos Nunes de Lima, noto anche come Colonnello Nunes, 82 anni, già al vertice tra il 2016 e il 2019, al tempo dei Mondiali del 2018 in Russia.

L’avvicendamento è stato ufficializzato a pochi giorni dall’inizio della Copa America, che si terrà in Brasile invece che in Argentina e Colombia sulla base di una decisione appoggiata dalla confederazione Conmebol e dallo stesso Caboclo.

Il presidente della Cbf si era mosso in favore dello spostamento di sede del torneo in linea con l’indirizzo dato dal capo dello Stato, Jair Bolsonaro. Mancanza di consultazioni e iter procedurali non condivisi sarebbero stati però all’origine di tensioni con la nazionale, sia con giocatori che con esponenti dello staff critici verso la decisione di Caboclo.

Il presidente della Cbf era già stato coinvolto in controversie in passato. Alcuni mesi fa durante un incontro con i proprietari di club calcistici, aveva esercitato pressioni contro chi si fosse opposto a una ripresa del campionato interrotto a causa della pandemia di Covid-19.

La settimana scorsa era stato il commissario tecnico Tite, all’anagrafe Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, a entrare in conflitto con Caboclo, sostenendo la posizione maggioritaria tra i giocatori, contrari alla partecipazione alla Copa America in Brasile in una fase segnata ancora dalla diffusione dei contagi. Secondo fonti della Cbf citate dal portale di informazione Terra, Caboclo era pronto a licenziare Tite. Il giornale O Globo aveva riferito che il dirigente aveva promesso a Bolsonaro di licenziare il ct questa settimana. Al suo posto in panchina avrebbe dovuto sedersi Renato Gaucho, un sostenitore del governo del capo dello Stato.

Lo statuto della Fifa, agli articoli 14 e 19, sancisce e richiede l’indipendenza e l’autonomia delle federazioni nazionali rispetto a ogni tipo di interferenza esterna, anche da parte dei governi. Una violazione di questo principio, se provata, può portare alla sospensione e anche all’espulsione delle federazioni.
